At Kids Outdoor Sports Camp, our Board of Directors is made up of individuals who care deeply about youth outdoor education, conservation, leadership, and preserving the traditions that make camp so special. Their guidance, support, and passion help shape the future of KOSC and ensure we continue creating meaningful experiences for campers and families year after year. Please take the time to get to know our amazing Board of Directors!

Judy Oswald

KOSC Founder & Emeritus Board Member

Judy was a CWA Board member in the late 80-90’s. During her time there she was adamant about getting more women and youth involved in hunting, shooting, and fishing. She was involved with organizing women’s training and hunts and discovered youth programs for hunting and fishing. NRA hosted these youth programs but were canceling them in CA. With that in mind she started her search for locations to host youth weeklong camps to teach Hunter Ed and conservation. It took a year and a half of visiting other camps and locations and in 1998 the first KOSC camp with 16 kids evolved. She was trained to instruct rifle and shotgun, archery and was a certified Hunter Education Instructor. During the earlier years she was on the ranges and in the classroom certifying over 2,000 youth with their Hunter Education certificates.  Her passion continues and she finds it even more crucial to get kids away from electronics for a week and provide them with skills for hobbies in the outdoors that will last them a lifetime.

Jim Silvernail

Emeritus Board Member

Jim started teaching fishing at the very first Kids Camp in 1998. He has been instructing there every summer since. Jim has been a KOSC board member since 2013. He really enjoys fishing with the kids and watching their excitement when they get a bite or catch a fish. He has seen many, many kids catch their very first fish. The excitement and the joy on their faces is what keeps him coming back. Some of them will not even touch a fish at first but after catching a few, they start taking the fish off the hook without his help. Jim says “KOSC has been an awesome experience”.

He was born and raised in the Sacramento valley and has always been an outdoor enthusiast. He started fishing in the waters of Northern California with his father and brother at a very young age. He took his California Hunter Safety course one week after his 8th birthday and shot his first pheasant with a 410 one month later. He enjoys bow hunting for whitetails in Michigan, also duck hunting and upland hunting with his English Springer Spaniel.

After college, he started flight training with the US Navy and spent seven years as a Navy pilot. Then 32 years as a commercial airline pilot with Flying Tigers and Federal Express. He retired from commercial flying in 2009.

He has been married for 51 years to his beautiful wife, Denise, and has three grown children and one grandchild.

Steve Rudolph

Board Member

Steve grew up in Alpine California, as a “Free Range Kid”. He spent many summers with family backpacking in the Sierra mountains.  Here he gained a love and appreciation for nature and the wildness.

Steve is a commercial general contractor.  His company has been operating in the downtown financial district of San Francisco since 1989.

Passionate about the outdoors, Steve enjoys hunting upland game, waterfowl, and big game, fly fishing and offshore fishing.Steve was first introduced to KOSC and Judy Oswald, over 19 years ago. All four of Steve’s children went through Judy’s Program, and eventually returned as Counselors and Instructors.

With a strong appreciation of the values and ethics taught through KOSC, Steve has continued to endorse and support KOSC.
