KOSC started their first year in 1998 with one camp with 30 campers. Over the next twenty years, it has blossomed into the most successful and interactive hunter education course in the state. The camps are hosted at multiple locations throughout California, and the incredible venues allows the kids to stay all week and truly experience every aspect that the outdoors has to offer.
KOSC currently runs six camps each summer and each camp houses between 15-30 campers (depending upon location). For those who already have their Hunter’s Education Certificate, KOSC offers an advanced camp to hone their shooting skills and further their knowledge of the outdoors. 2021 is KOSC’s 23rd year of operation, and we pride ourselves on giving youth the opportunity to become involved in the outdoors. All KOSC events accept campers ages 9-16.
KOSC was founded in 1998 by Judy Oswald. After taking her grandchildren to participate in a hunter education course, Judy felt she could make the experience more beneficial to youth. She wanted a more hands-on experience and several days of training versus the traditional one or two-day courses that were offered at the time.
KOSC started their first year with one camp of 16 campers in the summer of 1998. The next year it was 2 camps with 16 kids each. We are proud to say that we now host over 200 campers every summer! The majority of them come to beginning camp to learn about Hunter’s Safety and the fundamentals of firearms safety and the outdoors. Judy still comes to every camp to teach about her passion, Conservation. She plays a huge part in helping our Wood Ducks and the kids love seeing and hearing about it every summer.
