Outdoor Conservation Explorer Program

KOSC organizes multiple summer camps, each capable of accommodating approximately 30 campers or more. These camps are tailored for participants aged 9 to 17 who either possess or wish to obtain a Hunter’s Education Certificate. KOSC developed and implemented a unique program, the first of its kind, to help campers overcome these challenges, offering six levels of camps leading to the Outdoor Conservation Explorers Award. The first level is the Beginner Camp, the second level is the Advanced Camp, the third level is Advanced Camp II, the fourth level is Elite Camp I, the fifth level is Elite Camp II, concluding with the sixth level and final step, where campers will receive their Outdoor Conservation Explorer Award.

Our Camps

Beginner Camp

Beginner Camp is the perfect starting point for new or minimally experienced campers, giving them a strong foundation in outdoor sports, safety, and conservation. Throughout the week, campers complete the full Hunter Education course and test, practice safe marksmanship and archery skills under instructor supervision, and learn the basics of wildlife management, habitat, and ethical stewardship. They also enjoy hands-on activities like fishing, archery, nature walks, wildlife observation, and group games, all while experiencing the fun and community of overnight camp life — cabin living, campfires, evening programs, and a Thursday awards ceremony.

Beginner Camp builds confidence, reinforces safe habits, and prepares campers for success as they move into more advanced levels.

Advanced Camp

Advanced Camp takes your camper’s skills to the next level with a more hands-on, challenge-based outdoor experience. Campers advance their marksmanship through longer distances, moving targets, and scenario drills while also learning essential gear care, cleaning, and safety checks. They practice field navigation, range estimation, judgment-based decision-making, and realistic techniques like 3-D archery and safe tree-stand use. Wildlife tracking, habitat assessment, and species identification deepen their understanding of conservation, and simulated hunts bring all of their skills together in lifelike situations that build confidence and readiness.

The program adapts each year for returning campers, offering fresh challenges and leadership opportunities so no one ever repeats the same experience.

Elite Camp

Elite Camp is the highest level of the KOSC experience, created for campers who’ve already shown strong skills, responsibility, and dedication. Admission is selective, ensuring participants are ready for greater independence, leadership, and challenge. Campers choose a specialty tract—such as advanced archery, big game strategy, marksmanship, or conservation science—and spend the week immersed in focused lessons, projects, and fieldwork. They study conservation through the Sportsmen’s Alliance curriculum and take on advanced simulations while also mentoring younger campers. Each year brings new progression, allowing returning campers to keep advancing rather than repeating.

Elite Camp shapes skilled outdoorsmen and women into confident young leaders with a lifelong commitment to safe, ethical, and conservation-minded decision-making.
